Early Family-Based Intervention for Childhood Borderline Disorders -Based on the comparative analysis of borderline disorder and borderline personality disorder-

Abstract

|
Objectives: This study explored early intervention to improve childhood borderline disorder with the view that childhood borderline disorder can worsen to borderline personality disorder with continuity of symptoms.
Methods: This study collected and compared related data by applying search terms to childhood borderline disorder and adult borderline personality disorder through academic research information services according to the literature research method.
Results: There is a continuity between symptoms of childhood borderline disorder and adult borderline personality disorder. Moreover, literature research confirmed that the treatment goals and treatment methods of childhood borderline disorder and adult borderline personality disorder are also highly related. Reflecting on these results, it is suggested that family play therapy based on MBT is useful as an early intervention method for borderline disorders in childhood.
Conclusions: In order to prevent the improvement and deterioration of borderline disorders, implications of this study suggest that the mentalization ability of children and families as a whole be increased and healthy family restructuring pursued.
